What makes you think I'm neo-Puritan? I'm not a hard-core progressive. What am I puritanical about?

Nobody likes hearing "cools" stuff. I get it. But it's a critique that's very much out there. Your disdain for it doesn't change that. It can be a cheap accusation, and unfair, but it is immensely prevalent. Cultural cachet - beauty, image, coolness - is a bigger currency now than it's ever been with social media.

I get that it bothers you. I reject the premise that this is a widely-shared bother. And it largely seems to bother the people heavily invested in the performative outrage industry.

Now there is stuff that makes me roll my eyes a fair bit. That cringe Nike commercial from the Olympics comes to mind. But I’m willing to write it off as a dumb thing and not part of a giant conspiracy by an interconnected global cabal hell-bent on converting impressionable youth to polytheism, anarchy and the Air Raid offense. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, even if Freud never quite actually said that.

If you are constantly having to explain or try to define yourself against other’s perceptions, if you constantly have to keep saying “what I meant was …” maybe you are what everyone thinks you are, and/or you aren’t very good at saying what you mean.

I think it's mostly dumb, yes. But the way these mostly dumb moments are used and manipulated by the right bears some concern.

Amazing the number of people who suck up to the fatass daughterfucking pervert. Even though they know he'll ass-fuck them in the end.

I was just on Rolling Stone's Facebook page, reading an article about Mike Lindell. One commenter asked when Rolling Stone was going to report on Obama's birthday party.

What does Obama's birthday party have to do with Mike Lindell?.
