Biden won 3 of the 4 counties in which these cities are located.

Actually not good. You don’t want these vast stretches depopulating because that means the land - which does not disappear - is increasingly owned by fewer people, or it’s owned by people who don’t live there.

The whole SEC is blue. Illinois is red. And Washington split its electoral votes somehow. By Congressional districts, I presume?

Yep. This is why they're desperate to do it.

As Johnny Carson would have said, "I did not know that." Thanks.

Except for Hawaii, everything west of El Paso was Republican red. Same thing happened in 1980, then Hawaii capitulated during the Reagan-Mondale rout (as it had when Nixon almost ran the table in 72.) Washington and Oregon finally broke the pattern in 88, then California flipped blue for Clinton.

This is correct. The Rust Belt = Trump concept is not really a thing except in a couple regions, notably Western Pa. outside of Pittsburgh, which ought to be called the Pro Football Hall of Fame Belt. Drive from the Pittsburgh airport to Youngstown, as I did last month, and every damn exit is the name of a town where at least one and often two Canton inductees grew up.

This week didn't happen in a bubble.
Well, I mean, they already do. If you take the higher ground and you don't do it, you lose control of the House

The problem with blaming Trump for Afghanistan is that he was right. He should have done the total pullout himself but as usual was too lazy, disorganized, in mental decline, you name it, to follow through on his one smart impulse. The problem with accurately assessing blame is that no American politician could ever say, "many senior officers of our armed forces are lying, buckpassing careerists who use their status in society to shield themselves from the consequences of their decisions." It isn't totally their fault. The military is a complex and expensive tool. Using it to nation build is like using a bandsaw to hammer nails. And the military senior officers are quite rightly not allowed to say, "your civilian leaders are full of shit ordering us to do the impossible." So each side leaks to the senior Washington political press corps, which has its own issues.
