In that last scene, Agent Carter was transported to a live action scene with two people and became a part of the MCU for an extended period?

That would have been fun, but I doubt they would go that route this early. I think we will see Captain Carter again during this season. It looks like she meets a version of Dr. Strange in one of the clips in one of the trailers.

 

I watched the second episode of What If? with my wife. She has seen the relevant movies but doesn't really put much thought into them. This series seems to be the least accessible for the casual fan.

That said, I've enjoyed the first two episodes. I thought some aspects of this one were a little ridiculous. One character is vastly overpowered, but it is still a fun watch.

 

There's a new trailer out for Eternals. Meh.
I know they're just starting another epic 20-movie saga, and the first one set an impossibly high bar to clear, but the first few movies of Phase 4 appear to be a bit underwhelming.

 

I'm going to wait and see. I think Shang-Chi looks good. I don't know the story at all, but I think it looks good.

Other than Iron Man, it all got started slowly too and developed a huge following and you can go back and see a lot of good in some of what early on people thought were meh. Now you have this ginormous following and people will eat it up. They can't always hit home runs, but wonder if it will all go over well just because of how much people love this stuff now?

 

Hulk and Thor, in the early MCU, certainly had their issues, although people didn't fully grasp then that they were seeing this gigantic universe unfold. They just thought they'd seen mediocre Hulk and Thor movies. The next 10 years certainly earned them plenty of goodwill.
I think they also bought themselves some time with the Disney+ stuff serving as a bridge between the two eras and going over as well as it did. People have an idea of where this is going now, so they'll probably be more patient with any lesser chapters of the saga. I just wonder if they have three or four clunkers in a row, or if they don't deliver soon enough on some of the big expectations for Phase 4 (namely the Fantastic Four and X-Men) if people will start to turn on it like a TV show that tries to limp on for a couple more seasons after its biggest stars leave.

 

They really are going to need to do a good job with the X-Men and FF to shift away from relying so heavily on the Avengers with so many of the big guns moving on.

 

Loki, WandaVision, Far From Home all sucked?

Have I missed something? We got Kang. We got a Power Broker. We got Celestials coming. Is that not enough?

 

I was thinking more along the lines of the modest reception for Black Widow, and the so-so trailers for Shang-Chi and Eternals.

 

BW sucked because of its placement. If that came out before EndGame, it’s looked upon a lot differently.

 

I think Marvel is still working on which heroes to build around. So far, Spidey and Florence's Black Widow seem like shoe-ins. Like if they built toward a 30ish Tom Holland Spiderman, serving as the leader of an Avengers + other heroes squad? That's pretty cool on paper. Helmsworth's Thor and Bruce Banner are also still around.

I'd put Starlord and Dr. Strange on a tier below those folks, along with Wanda and Loki - Wanda seems to be trending dark, while Loki is trending light. Falcon and the Winter Soldier are probably in this level. If Ant-Man weren't so comical, he'd probably be in the upper tier; it's a role that's just perfectly cast with Paul Rudd. To use wrestling terminology, this would be the midcard and tweeners level.

Eternals strikes me as a big swing one-off. Hard to see how the characters would regularly connect to the "normal" heroes, but it's useful to have them in the background. And, I doubt Disney/Marvel is going to let the X-Men license go dormant for *that* long, so I highly expect an appearance or hint of them in one of the upcoming movies (Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Spidey, etc.).
