She was 33 years old when she was Playmate of the Year. Most of 'em were 19-24. But she definitely was not out of place.

It seemed liked she was Playboy's equivalent of an on-call radio guest host as well. Whenever their celebrity pictorial fell through, they were able to get Kathy Shower naked on a beach, or in a pool, or in some mansion within the hour.
She must have had about a dozen pictorials in the 80s.

As I recall she was a single mother too (or maybe I am confusing her with someone else). (Some of us read the writeup with the pictorial.) She was like Shannon Tweed and Terri Welles, always in the mag.

Terri Welles is the best-looking woman I have ever seen in person. Married Charlie Simmer, who was not a goon.

He definitely was not, I remember Mike Murphy telling me Dave Taylor could be a pretty aggressive guy on the ice.

    A Corey Perry-type. A chippy agitator.

A friend of mine was a die-hard Kings fan growing up. When he was a teenager he was somehow selected to attend a Kings end of season banquet. He found himself seated with Charlie Simmer and Terri Welles. It was like he'd died and gone to heaven.

My old roommate can top that. When I was covering the Kings, we flew home on a charter from Buffalo and it was to land at the West Imperial Terminal, a cargo area on the backside of LAX. He was going to pick me up. The flight was late. He was invited in join Terri and a few other wives/girlfriends in the back of a van. They were passing around a bottle of Scotch.

I said to Murph one day, "How many Gordie Howe hat tricks did you have?" He had no idea (the answer was one) but he said, "Not as many as Dave Taylor, I can tell you that."

Big Trouble in Little China - haven't seen it in twenty plus years, but it'll always be a favorite. Also loved that Kurt Russel-Robin Williams football movie from around the same time though I am blanking on the name.

The Best of Times, which is great.

Edit: It is also available to watch for free on YouTube, but with ads.
