Yeah. I totally forgot that Jerry Colangelo bought and moved the team. It was during that period in the 90s when I was barely paying attention to the NHL.

Find someone as committed to you as Gary Bettman is committed to keeping the Coyotes in Arizona.

Quebec won't get a team. The Peledeaus are always floated as owners and by all accounts Bettman wants no part of them. Maybe a different ownership group would have a shot, but the Peledaus operate the rink.

I don't think Portland works. Having your only two major sports with almost fully overlapping seasons is a problem.

I think comparing goalies pre and post Patrick Roy is almost impossible. I don't know that any position in sport has undergone such a radical transformation.

    That is true.

I think you have to put them into the context of the game when they were playing, and then like everything when it comes to these kinds of beer and peanuts debates, it's a matter of opinion.

I think Patrick Roy is in a class by himself. After that, it's difficult for me, because I didn't actually see someone like Jacques Plante or Terry Sawchuk play.

But sort of spitballing it, but I'd go Roy as 1, no questioning myself about it. ... and then try to figure out where Ken Dryden, Marty Brodeur, Domink Hasek, Plante, Sawchuk fit in on the list below him. amd who else I am missing. One curiousity to me is how, or if, you include Vladislov Tretiak on the list.

I love Hank, but I think he slips down the list a bit.

Hasek is far and away the best goalie ever, IMO. The difference between him and any other goalie through his peak was greater than any other goalie from any era.

That’s pretty much how it goes. There’s also been a lot of really good goalies who are tough to rank, it sort of goes in tiers. But trying to compare say, Cheevers to Luongo, is impossible.

It’s pretty crazy that the position took so long to get technically rational. Goaltending can lose you a lot of games.

I’ve always held Tretiak in high regard, and he likely ranks at the top of the list for mystique. I have also heard a few people break down his career and suggest that he wasn’t all that special. I do know that when the Habs drafted him I was excited.

    Completely agree.

Give me "I need a goalie to steal me a game" and the answer will always be Dominik Hasek. He made more "holy sh_t" and "how did he come up with that?" saves than any other goalie by miles.

Watched him do it in person in Raleigh a few times. He once had Paul Maurice, not the hottest head in a million years, so POed that he looked at the media and said "four of those went off the pipes. There's no way he knows those are going off the pipes."

Hasek, upon hearing that, responded "they pay me to protect the inside of the pipes, not the outside."

Thing is, this wasn't a one-time occurrence. There's good reason for that.

    Tough to argue that.
