I’m with you to a point on the Reaganites - although, hell, Jackie Presser supported him - but, c’mon. The Democrats bear some of the border blame too. More than 50% at this point.

I’m not sure what you’re attempting to defend here, either. Surely you don’t think it’s a good system for under-the-table, not-legally-authorized-to-work migrants to take substandard wages - a lot of which they send back home - because we’ve unofficially declared American-born workers a bunch of greedy layabouts. That’s…not a good system. It’s a terrible one.

Now, a good system might be “we’re making 10 million immigrants legal citizens and they’re taking the jobs American-born citizens have shown they don’t want” - but the American people won’t go for it.

Progressives can’t really be for anything that limits immigration because, again, when the question of “ok who can’t come and what’s the numerical cap” is brought up…well, you see what happens. Word salads, references to Christian parables that have nothing to do with geopolitics, explorations of inner feelings. Nobody wants to say “these yes, those no” because that’d be, you know, unfair, to have *any* kind of standard. So we don’t have one.

It’s not so much what we decide, as the decision making process has fallen apart. And no that’s not Trump’s fault. The dysfunction predates him and points back to a class of politicians who don’t get a thing done, point to the other party for blame, and get re-elected off of the persistent strife.

Let's say 65 million. After all, the GOP insists that there's plenty of room in the country for that amount, which, coincidentally enough, is also the number that have been aborted since Roe vs. Wade.

Yes, it's the Libruls who are the problem.

    Obama deported more than Bush.

Trump made it nearly impossible for asylum seekers to even have a fair hearing.

The GOP ran on a platform that caravans of dirty people were descending on this country.

Whenever Democrats talk immigration reform to honor those who are here without documents but have otherwise lived productively and lawfully, the Republicans start down the path of how many do we allow in and Democrats want to destroy the meaning of boarders and won't even engage in meaningful conversations.

And still none of that has anything to do with the point you keep dodging which is when progressives simply say have a goddamned heart and don't make human beings villains in your little cultural wars and treat them with respect. If you deport 1 million undocumented people, fine. Give then a fair hearing. If you decide to let in people with skills but not unskilled, fine. Give them a fair shot to prove it and not just pick and choose based on the prevailing skin color of the country of origin. If someone is saying I fled gangs and murderers trying to kill me and my family and trudged through a country filled with cartels itching to exploit migrants give them a chance to prove their claim is real. Don't turn them away because you made the standard too hard.

Have a fucking heart for these people. But apparently that is too much for you.

    For sure.

Jesus wanted Christians to keep in mind international borders and employment laws when they act Christ like.

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these corporations and job creators of mine, you did for me.’

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you libtards who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was rich and you raised my taxes, I created menial jobs and you made me give workers a living wage, I was a success and you didn't celebrate me, I needed more tax breaks on real estate and corporate income and you did not accommodate me, I was sick and in prison and you did not investigate those who investigated me.’

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you rich or creating jobs or successful or needing tax breaks or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

    #CuckAlert.
Good for them. That’s not easy logistically. I suspect it will cost them in concessions revenue because a lot of people won’t want to put up with the long lines to get in to the stadium in the first place.

This sounds very Scrooge-y, but I think if there's anything we've learned about the labor market over the last six months or so, it's that the limiting factor on viable restaurants in a community is probably not customers and probably is labor. I think until the pandemic, a lot of foody folks figured that if they just had a space and a good concept that they could make their money. I really think that when it comes to restaurants, we were way over the market's "carrying capacity." That said, we'll probably see more people go into food trucks to cut that corner.

Trumpist/John Bircher right, rather than American people.

There was a time not that long ago when western Republicans like Alan Simpson, John McCain and George W. Bush spoke out in favor of immigration reform -- before the party's peckerwood wing took over. Now the Bircher tail is wagging the GOP dog. The mainstream GOP made its deal with the devil, and now the devil calls the tune.
    So dance, sucker, dance.

Classic strawman. You can't speak for progressives. You don't know progressives.

I’m curious what your point is. Are you arguing that I don’t understand Christianity and how intersects with politics? Or are you arguing that our immigration policy be tethered Christ’s teachings?
