Why the Media Is Worse for Biden Than Trump

"On Trump’s worst days, the Fox News chyrons depicted him as a triumphal leader. On Biden’s best days, the conservative media was still giving him hell. In recent days, CNN and MSNBC looked a lot like Fox News, all hyping chaos in Afghanistan 24/7. That is the kind of comprehensive media hostility Trump never had to worry about.

Republicans have the freedom to dismiss negative revelations as the liberal media, a luxury Democrats don’t have."

 

It's worse than that actually. The GOP has done such a good job gaslighting their followers with regard to the media, bad press (from the MSM) actually means they are doing a "heckofajob." I realize partisan press dates to the Founding Fathers when each party had their own metro papers to push their agenda - but I think it might have been Nixon who went full paranoidal with regard to the press (even during his veep days, see Checkers). It then became part of the party litany. Ailes and Murdoch capitalized on it and walled off conservatives from ever again viewing non-righty media as credible.

The mass media in the US is predominantly -- overwhelmingly -- run by billion dollar corporations controlled by arch conservatives.

By the standards of the rest of the world, the US has no liberal mass media outlets. None. Not one.

The only legitimately liberal outlets in US media are niche websites/publications. The mass circulation media ranges from conservative to arch conservative to fascist.

I would like to sit down with Jack and extract and parse his definition of patriotism. Something tells me it wouldn’t extend much beyond MAGA.

Would he consider Jimmy Carter a patriot? Beau Biden?

It’s amusing that his entire family hasn’t sought out any form of military or public service, they’ve all just sponged off the name and worked the family business.

 

Nicklaus was also born into wealth, IIRC. His father owned a couple of drug stores. His dad was friends with Woody Hayes, who wanted to fight the truck drivers and mill workers who heckled his friend's son when he played the U.S. Open at Oakmont.

 

I have heard from several trusted professionals that Jack Nicklaus is and has been one of the most incandescent assholes among the titans of sport since around the midcentury.
