    Isn’t he more 80s? He was at Notre Dame in the very early 80s and I don’t remember him having a very long pro career…

    Also - would all-time greats like Ronnie Lott, borderline Hall of Famers like Steve McNair and Steve Tasker and Heisman winners/SB MVPs/ESPN Gameday hosts like Desmond Howard really be “random” names?

    Edit: I stand corrected. Kiel was on the Packers roster in 90/91 and signed by the Falcons in 1992 (but never on the roster). I somehow had no idea he died at 50.

    When my family first got cable in the early 80s, ESPN used to show Saturday’s Notre Dame and UCLA games on early Sunday mornings. I saw a lot of Blair Kiel, Steve Beurelein, Rick Neuheisel and Steve Bono. As a kid, I always liked how Kiel was also the punter.

    Given how good most high school QBs tended to be as punters, I was surprised more teams didn’t have their QBs as their first-string punter, or at least at mid-field for fake options.
