Not to my mind. I just figured that was what he meant.

One of the benefits for the PAC of the alliance (assuming that it holds together long enough to mean anything) is that they can do away with MWC OOC games in favor of better match ups.

MWC invites North Dakota State to move up and in a few years of the Bison throwing everyone around maybe they get a look?

If you are the Big 12 and you want to expand and you’ve already said geography doesn’t matter (hello West Virginia!) then you could probably do worse than take a flier on San Diego State, particularly with the Chargers no longer competing for the local football dollar.

Speaking as a C-USA guy, geography matters. I guess if they pay out enough it matters less, but a coast to coast league is still nuts.

Steve Addazio did an interview in the Denver Post where he basicallly said that Colorado State wanted to go into the Big 12. CSU just finished a 200 million dollar plus stadium they are trying to justify.

The stadium was built because the President of CSU, Tony Frank, though they could get admitted to the Big 12 the last time they expanded. Initially private donations were going to pay for it but when the school could only raise half the money so they "borrowed" the rest and proceeded anyway. The school hopes this round of Big 12 expansion can bail them out.

The lesson to draw from this is if any public university president comes to the governing body and recommends a eight figure upgrade to athletic facilities in order to move to a more prestigious conference he needs to have a signed, well vetted contract from the new conference in hand. If such a document does not exist fire the administrator immediately. His continued employment brings academic disgrace to the university. Even a freshman taking remedial classes should be smarter than that.

BYU has 5 Pac-12 schools on its schedule this year, Boise, Virginia and Baylor as well - they may be an independent, but dang that is a serious P5 schedule.

SMU will never be allowed within sniffing distance of a P5 conference.

At least West Virginia will have a closer rival. I hope the UCF cross country team enjoys those October bus trips to Lubbock.
