One of the rules I live by is, “Nothing good comes from fishing.”

I play tennis 3-4 times a week. I run on trails 2-3 times a week. I go on long hikes (10-15 miles) on the weekend when I can.

I know pickleball is hugely popular amongst the older set and I love racquet sports and am in that demographic now, but as a longtime tennis player who still enjoys hitting winners I'm having a hard time sucking it up to hit a wiffle ball around on a mini court. I guess I'll just have to get over it, but its not going to be easy.

I am pretty solid in competitive shade sitting. I'm a starter at beer drinker.
Wife thinks I can be all-state. I'm actually getting some DI looks.

Has anyone been to a gym lately? What’s your comfort level? I almost went back, but then Delta came through.

Now, I’m in the Northeast and we’re both vaccinated, but my wife is immunocompromised and I have two kids at home so I’m holding out a bit longer.
But man, I miss that morning ritual

I go to the gym to the indoor pool and shower. At least 80% of the people in my city are vaccinated so comfort level is good. I know what you mean though, I went back into the gym in May and it felt damn good.

I've had at least three acquaintances recently blow out knee ligaments playing pickleball. I think tennis is easier on the joints because you have more time to react to the flight of the ball. Plus, they were seriously into it and were playing way more than their older bodies probably could take. That's a lot of twisting and pounding.

I played badminton in high school and wish I’d stuck with it.

As a lifelong tennis player, I can't really get past the noise of pickleball. And I love the running around that I do in tennis. Some of my friends love pickleball and I'm happy for them, but I'm just not interested. Maybe I will be in a decade when my legs are less spry.

    Hiked 14 miles today.

I went into the gym to play with the HS badminton team when I was the #1 tennis player in school (not a great program) and I got SMOKED, real badminton, in a gym with real players, IS HARD!! It’s not backyard stuff.
