If Cantlay walked in his field of vision, it's because Bam Bam takes about 22 club thumps before he's ready to swing. Cantlay mentioned afterward he had been asked to speed up the pace of play by the officials and he didn't take it personally. It was a non-starter in his mind.

DeChambeau has rabbit ears. Monty is a great comparison. John McEnroe also comes to mind. But to be honest, would you rather be poor put-upon Bryson or fan favorite Ricky Fowler?

At least Patrick Reed owns up to playing the heel. DeChambeau just needs to try not to act like a pompous ass every weekend, but for some unknown reason he can't help but throw more gasoline on the fire.

Fire your caddie mid-tournament, throw your equipment sponsor under the bus, grimace and frown at every missed shot, make weak excuses when you play bad, pull a Steve Carlton with the media. That's a pretty good way to make sure other players on Tour aren't nearly as impressed with you as you think you are.

Maybe it's not exactly his fault that Golf Channel and other outlets are constantly fawning over him as a "game changer with his distance and accuracy" and "smartest guy on the Tour." NBC was pouring the Kool-Aid in large glasses again this weekend. They've been touting that SMU physics degree and his single shaft length clubs ever since his debut. If he actually was honest with the media -- which would require him to be honest with himself, and be willing to accept criticism -- maybe some of the taunts might lessen.

And yes, he's the master of bomb and gouge, and when it's going right, he's the best out there. That works great on long tracks with hard, fast fairways where he's got an advantage hitting wedges into accessible greens. But that's proven to be a lousy way to play Augusta or the Open Championship, and nobody wants to tell him otherwise, or worse, he refuses to listen. The "thinking man's golfer" doesn't seem to use his brain very often.

The only way to shut up the fans is to either own being the anti-hero and just keep playing the invincible robot superstar or show a little humility and admit you might be wrong more often than not. That's all on Bam Bam. Until then, the taunting will just get worse.

The commish announces that fans yelling "Brooksie!" at Bryson will be ejected. While the "mashed potatoes!" guy continues to run amok. Insert eyeroll emoji.

Good. Just keep bringing attention to it, because that'll make it magically disappear. Can't wait for 1,000 fans to yell it at the same time at East Lake, just to see if the Tour has enough toughs to toss them all.

Yell it as he is finishing his round. So what if they throw you out?

I can't stand DeChambeau and his entire shtick, but the Tour also better figure out a way to get ahold of this or it’s going to get worse, especially with golf aligning itself with gambling. You don’t think some guy who put a couple hundred on Koepka in a tournament Bryson is leading isn’t going to put two and two together?

    Show that putt line again
    (Oh, show that putt line)
Don't waste another minute slow play cryin'
    We're nowhere near the end
    We're nowhere near
Bro fest is ready to begin

According to AP style, is it Brooksie, or Brooksy?

Getting in bed with gambling is absolutely going to bite the Tour in the ass at some point, and it might not be in a high-profile spot like with the leaders on Sunday. It might not even be something that gets reported at all; someone could mouth off to board favorite Scott Piercy on a Thursday afternoon at a run-of-the-mill event to try to cash a live bet with the only witness being a clueless volunteer.

I hope this happens at East Lake, but it likely won't. Typically sedate crowd and opening weekend with Georgia v. Clemson, G-Tech and others all playing.

Scottsdale in February should be fun on No. 16

Golf Channel is doing nothing this morning to dissuade the notion that the current generation of Tour golfers are as thin-skinned and privileged as any Trumpist. "But we play with just a thin rope between us and people who heckle us. Golf fans should be held to a different level, like at Augusta."

Good thing they don't have to play in front of the commoners at Lambeau Field, Cameron Indoor Stadium or Fenway Park.

"QUIET, PLEASE! We have to hear our putts drop."

If they're going to boot folks for being the slightest bit mean to Bam Bam, what the hell happens at the Ryder Cup later this month? You want to talk about a loud crowd that's openly for and against different players. Let's see the same enforcement for everybody not named DeChambeau, if that's the case.

It's just a stupid jerk knee reaction for a jerk who's been an ass for quite some time. If he wants to be respected, show some first. If not, suck it up, buttercup. Ear plugs are cheap.

Want regular Tour fans to mirror Augusta's patrons? You'd have to start with a cellphone ban, and good luck with that.
