In a later episode, wasn't there an obscure reference to the Hickory sinking in this storm? Can't remember. But I remember that scene vividly, like so many from the series.

In his famous half-Latin cursing of God in "Two Cathedrals," Bartlet says "You took out that tender ship of mine in the Atlantic."

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Obama should have walked Merrick Garland up the steps of the Supreme Court and literally sat him there once the Senate refused to even consider Garland as a nominee.

Not going to say it was all "planned" - but the chaotic nature of the US departure of Afghanistan, while dreadful politically - might have also helped mask some pretty deft planning with regards to ongoing intelligence assets and future engagement within the region.

For all his earlier goofs, Chief Justice Roberts is starting to mark his ground as the "centrist." Once Clarence punches out (one way or another), J-Rob will become the swing vote.

He's been moving that way for a while. Starting with ACA.

Did they rule on the merits or weasel out as usual?

It wasn't credible but he proved he was unfit for the bench with his insane, crybaby, enraged reaction.

It's been heading that way for a while, but our government has pretty much punted on controversial issues and letting the courts sort things out whether its healthcare, abortion rights, guns, voting etc. The fringes on each end of the spectrum get to retain their cred and not have to give way in a compromise and still get to yell and scream about the "activist judges." Win, win.

Now that the abortion boogeyman is mostly gone, the evangelicals will once again have to use the dangerous brown folk as their main fundraising tool.

That was done to appease Trump, who got off on the macho angry nature of it.
