Early ticket sales at the opera house opened this morning, and I managed to get box-seat tix for Giddens, Devotchka, Iris DeMent and the Cajun band Beausoleil. I love sitting in those antique boxes -- I feel a little like Abe Lincoln. Dave Alvin called us out as "big shots" for being perched above him over the stage.

The other benefit of the boxes is that they're the venue's most comfortable seats, most of which could have come out of a grade-school auditorium. They're plain wood, installed at a time when people were shorter, narrower and had sterner glutes.

I’m an Isbell fan, and I generally agree with most of what he says. That being said, I’m pretty tired of his constant Twitter spats and snark.

I'd never heard of Yacht Rock until about a month ago on an SJ thread. Soft rock covers? It sounded like crap to me, not interested.

Yesterday, I got a last-minute invitation from a friend to go to the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano for a Yacht Rock show.

The band was named Yachtley Crew. It was anything but soft rock.
All of the songs were familiar, of course. But they kicked ass. Loud and powerful. Most of the crowd was standing up and dancing. But most notable was the band was having fun. They were playing great music and enjoying it. Screwing around with each other, some sloppy choreography which showed they were there to have fun and make sure the audience was having fun.

I've had some adventures but will never forget the Kiss concert I saw years back in western France. I felt Olympian.

Kiss was my first concert. I was in sixth grade. The Animalized tour. Krokus opened.

I've got tickets to see The Black Keys in about 10 days but with the way the virus is spreading in my college town, I doubt I'm going into an indoor venue. Sux.

Saw Bruce on Broadway this weekend. Definitely strange wearing a mask the whole time.

One of the original Stiff punk rockers, Wreckless Eric, is coming to my area for a house concert at the end of the month. Hoping to attend.

Heading to the National to see Dawes tonight, my first post-COVID indoor concert. Have to show proof of vax to attend, so that's nice. Saw Dawes a few years ago on a Sunday night and they were stunningly good live. Just looking forward to seeing some live music again.

Farther down the road, eyeing trying to snag tix for all three nights of The Hold Steady's weekend set in London next March. Happens to be on the same weekend as a Watford-Arsenal game at the Vic, so it could be a hell of a trip. Just hope I can score the tickets. No idea how fast they'll go once on sale.

Trying to decide if I want to see Jimmie Vaughan and Eric Clapton in Austin tomorrow night. Nosebleed seats are around $40; decent seats about $65; and really good seats (not the best, but good) are about $200.

Does Clapton require proof that you're not vaccinated?
