Not for nothing, but the "Oppose" side in that poll has lost some of its voting base these past few months...

At least one poll suggests what I think we all knew, that the crowd fighting mask mandates in schools is a loud minority.

COVID at school? 2 in 3 parents support mask mandates as many worry kids will get very sick.

Parents want their children back in school. They don't trust remote learning. They want universal mask mandates to keep those children safe. They also want mandates for school employees to be vaccinated.

Sure, some of that is selfish. They want the mandates for teachers and other school employees but aren't as committed when it is their own children, but I get that. I think there is a reasonable debate to be had about vaccination mandates, but we need to move away from remote learning as much as possible and doing that safely means putting up with masks for a while longer. That is inarguable among the sane.

Very similar reporting in this morning's New York Times newsletter:

Just read about a guy in the Keys, vaccinated, died. He was 61, but in apparently good health. Not heavy. He was a dynamic force in the community for decades and will be greatly missed.

Sorry to hear about him but there are at least 11,000 people who are not sick.

@Mngwa, that story is damned sad. Those bolts from the blue are cruel.

I've been saying some variation of this for going on two years now. If your immune system is crap, if you are prone to getting whatever epizootie makes the rounds, stay home. Be extra cautious. Everybody do at least the minimum to protect your neighbor If people had just exercised common sense, we wouldn't be parsing the wisdom of massive measures now.

Went to a family wedding in DC this past weekend, my first large gathering since March 2020. Indoors at hotel, museums, bus to wedding activities, 95+% masked. Actual wedding activities, about 1%. Masking now at home before week-long business trip to LA and Seattle Saturday.

Yep! I often think that if people had learned the lesson from the northeast and northwest when this first started? We stink as a species. We are truly incapable of learning from the mistakes of others.
