The Daily Chief-Union in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, is hiring a sports reporter.

Coverage primarily is of high school sports in Wyandot County. Duties include writing game stories, features and previews. The person hired also will be responsible for taking photos, but previous experience in that area is not required. Some page layout also will be taught as part of job duties. Another responsibility of the job includes some news coverage, especially monthly council and school board meetings. Other writing opportunities, such as columns, are possible.

A qualified candidate should be knowledgeable in a variety of sports with the ability to keep stats and game notes, conduct professional interviews and write efficiently. Ever since Tommy Callahan and Callahan Auto left, Sandusky hasn't been the same

 

Not the same place, actually. Cedar Point is in Sandusky -- note there's no "Upper" there.

Fun fact: Upper Sandusky is actually south of Sandusky. Well south, like 75 miles.

 

Upper Sandusky is also pretty much middle of nowhere. Marion or Findlay would be your closest cities, I'm guessing both are about a half hour's drive.

If you're a fan of Shawshank Redemption, Mansfield is about an hour east.

 

Yes, Findlay and Marion are about 30 minutes away and the places people go for a few more options. Upper Sandusky is about halfway in between Toledo and Columbus, about an hour to the edge of either. Mansfield is about 45 minutes away. Some of "Shawshank Redemption" was shot in Upper Sandusky.

 

We hired Danny Barletta, a UConn grad, for the job. He's spent a few months prior getting a start in South Carolina. We're glad to have him and think he'll do well!

As these things seem to go, we now have an opening for a news job. Anyone interested can contact met. There could be a sports story every now and then and a possible chance to move into more of a sports role in the future. Our newsroom was unchanged for over three years before two people moved on within weeks of each other.
