Because the Big 10 asked the wrong question. It wanted to know how many households there were so it could rack up cable subscriber fees, not realizing that the cable model was about to rapidly collapse.

I don't recall where I saw it detailed, but Rutgers is losing their ass financially since going B1G. Unsupportable debt from what I was reading.

Weirdo that I am, I do find the new-look Big 12 fascinating because it might be the most evenly balanced league out there. I don’t think there is any one school you can point to and say they should obviously dominate year after year. UCF might come closest eventually, but they’ve had two winless seasons in less than 20 years.

Thanks. I'm looking at too many boards to retain things that I don't link to with realignment going.

Oklahoma State should wipe the floor with everyone given all the money T. Boone Pickens gave them.

Texas Tech's AD said outright that they expect to add more. The implication was that it was over time, not a second group now. I suspect that they'll take the plunge and go to 16. Add Memphis, SMU (if the other Texas schools will allow it), Boise, and San Diego St. for Cali recruiting and a finger in the PAC's eye.

I suspect that a couple of the B12 leftovers make a deal to move on in a year or two, so they'll need to replace whoever that is as well.

I'm wondering if it won't be five 16 team conferences and the rest in ten years.

I don't see a particular reason for the Pac-12 to dilute the product and the payouts just to reach 16. They've got a solid dozen big-time schools without having to infill with teams that don't match their academic standards. I guess Wazzou is the outlier, and even then, the stadium holds 35,000.

If you're looking for Carnegie Research 1 Universities west of the Rockies to add, the list is pretty ugly: Utah State, Colorado State and the two New Mexicos. Otherwise you're adding schools of lesser academic quality but better football programs.

BYU? Well, there's that Sunday thing for starters. UNLV? They've had one winning season in the Mountain West since Clinton was President. Hawaii? Maybe, but travel costs would be murder, not even considering non-revs.

Boise, San Jose, Fresno and San Diego would love to get invited but they aren't pretty enough.

And going after teams like Kansas State, Iowa State or Okie State would be desperation. I don't think the Pac-12 needs to be that desperate.

I think the B12 grabs Boise and San Diego next go round.

The interesting thing here is they say, "We're gonna do it," but they have no specifics. No timetable, cost, location, etc.
They're only announcing this now because they want to step on UCF's Big 12 membership announcement.
To paraphrase the old Emergency Broadcast System message: "If this were an actual thing, the attention signal you just heard would have been followed by official information, news and appeals for money. This is only a test."

This is a sincere question. Let's say the Big 12 title game -- or any game, for that matter -- is played on a Saturday night and there's a delay for some reason and the clock strikes midnight on Sunday before the game is over. Can BYU keep playing?
