During last night’s telecast, Dwayne Staats said: “Nelson Cruz has had a lot of success against Michael Fulmer
I thought: “Nelson Cruz has had a lot of success against every Tigers pitcher over the last 15 years.”
    So I looked him up
I still think of him as a Ranger, though Mariners and Twins fans can make a case
I had forgotten he came up with the Brewers, who traded him to Texas with Carlos Lee so they could get rid of Lee’s contract
A worthy successor to David Ortiz who also looks bound for the Hall of Fame

Bizarre sequence in last night's Jays-Orioles game when Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde goes off very loudly and very profanely at Robbie Ray for something that wasn't clear at the time (apparently Ray thought the Orioles were stealing signs and the way they knocked him around early there might be some credence to that). The worst thing for Jays fans was manager Charlie Montoyo, already a polarizing guy among much of the fan base, did nothing to defend his ace and just let a guy managing one of the worst teams in MLB to keep running his mouth.

I've heard from people in Baltimore that Hyde is quite the meathead. There's not much between the ears.

Initially a METS prospect who was dealt to the A's for Jorge freaking Velandia TWENTY-ONE YEARS AGO. The two pitchers the Twins got for him from the Rays, Drew Strotman and Joe Ryan, were each two years old when Cruz signed with the Mets.

I don't think he's a HOFer--he doesn't have Edgar Martinez's all-around excellence or the iconic moments of David Ortiz--but he's got a real shot at 500 homers, which is fucking mind-blowing considering he had 22 homers before turning 28. There are worse candidacies being bandied about, that's for sure.

They also were no-hit twice in seven-inning games, which don’t count as no-hitters.
