Spent a great month in Cruces one weekend. State football championship and so much more.

This was decades ago, but a paper's Cal State Fullerton beat writer was missing on a trip to Las Cruces. They found him dead in his hotel room. Unknown heart condition, no foul play.

As bad as NMSU is in football the Aggies always are a tough out in the NCAA Tournament

They were the first team LMU beat and the Aggies actually blew the game. The next year, they reached the Sweet 16 and played UCLA in Albuquerque. Lost that one, too.

Big West hoops was quite good beyond UNLV with Santa Barbara, New Mexico State, Long Beach, and Pacific for a few years.

Michigan State played them the year it went to the Final Four and lost to Butler
It was in a 5/12 and MSU won 70-67

I wouldn’t fixate about a published fee. Every newly minted FBS team is effectively propped up by students. The difference is that some schools publicly account for it in enumerated fees and others hide it in tuition. I’m saying this about those that have made the leap. It may be a different thing with a school thinking about it. (Their tuition may be going up more than otherwise. So that’s worth considering.)

Great baseball conference, too. Fullerton won a few national titles, and UC Irvine and Long Beach State have both gotten to Omaha a few times. I think UCSB has had its moments as well.
For a spell in the mid 2000s, the Big West might have been the third best baseball conference in the country.

Sure, but schools would be smart to hide it.

    True.
    Much depends on the state.

UCF’s athletics fee is $14.32 per credit hour for both undergrad and graduate students.
