I feel very confident about America's COVID numbers. Everywhere else - eh. The US health care system has incentive to be accurate about it, and, given our current penchant for cataloging and confessing every sin we've committed, we're prone to be honest about it.

Nations that aren't democracies - or are barely so - have incentive to lie to their people.

 

Saw stories today about how Fox News' vaccination rules are even tougher than those Biden has adopted, and that more than 90% of the people who work there are vaccinated.

Biden should just say, "We're adopting Fox News's vaccination policy, since it says it's protecting your freedom," and leave it at that.

Of there’s one thing that I wish Biden would implement is a vaccination mandate for air travel.

 

I think many of the deaths in the third world have not been recorded. For example, Costa Rica, which is extremely well governed and has a functioning health system reports 6,000 deaths and Nicaragua, which is next to Costa Rica, reports 200 or so despite having similar populations. Many Nicaraguans work in Costa Rica and there is no way Nicaragua has been that much more effective than Costa Rica in keeping the disease out.

Also, and this is a universal rule, the Chinese government lies about everything. I don't believe their numbers. I also have been to India, There is no way in hell the government of India knows what is going in in those slums. And those two countries are a about a 30% of world population. And then throw in most of Africa where the government doesn't know either.
