"We're fine with immigrants! But you have to come here the right way!"

<Democrat President lets in some refugees>

"OMG WHY ARE WE BRINGING IN REFUGEES!!!"

I would also note that here in the Lone Star state there are many among the "concerned about illegal immigration" set who are decidedly of Mexican origin.

White people who overstay their visas are not a priority somehow. Ever.

    Or ...

Monday: "I can't believe Sleepy Joe left our allies in Kabul!"

Tuesday: "We can't allow these Afghans into our nation!"

Hell, some of their ancestors probably regarded Davy Crockett as an illegal immigrant.

Legitimate concern over illegal border crossers and the need to build a more fair and workable response to them is different from a reflexive opposition to any form of immigrants no matter the circumstances. A good example would be the Afghans who helped our forces. There was a pretty high percentage that agreed that we should get them out of there - but the number who opposed any of them coming to their state was also high, and vocal about it.

My POV is, Chris Hayes thinks voters should acknowledge what Joe Biden "did" for them - as if he "did" it.

A post that starts with "fair" and ends with the word "xenophobia" is part of the issue with the discussion. One side of the debate is always going to lean on moral superiority and, so long as it does, how much reform and change can there be? Nobody wants to be labeled that, so they don't engage. They go vote for an actual racist instead. This is not, in any way, a good result, but I lean toward it being a preferred result for progressives, because they'd rather have the devil in office and retain the right to be morally superior than restrain themselves from moral superiority while getting a kinder, gentler nation in the process.

It is not dissimilar to some evangelical Christians, who'd rather shame other Christians for looking at porn once, or having a few drinks - and feeling really righteous about having done it - only to see a Christian culture now awash in porn and alcoholism because no sincere efforts were ever made to process the matters among Christians when the problem was small.

I'm told that there is no such, only the feverish fulminations of racists.

Nah. I don't wanna be labeled a xenophobe, and often don't engage as a result. But I don't then express myself by finding a racist to vote for.

My view is that reruns of Gunsmoke on MeTV have more influence than Chris Hayes. But I think his larger point is that the Democrats are bad at letting people know that these payments would not have happened if they weren’t in power.
