Because if we pass a border security bill only, Democrats have no assurances Republicans will ever get back to a bill regarding green cards, etc.

And if we pass a DACA/pathway to citizenship bill only, Republicans will have no assurances Democrats will ever get back to a border security bill.

This may shock you: But compromises like this is how we’ve traditionally accomplished anything.

 

Actual criminals … murderers. … rapists … should be where we prioritize any deportation efforts.

This, to me, assumes Democrats wouldn’t agree to stringent deportation of the truly repugnant without getting something in exchange.

 

There is a standing backlog in immigration courts.

I'll happily edit to "increased funding for immigration courts so we can more effectively push forward on deportations for actual criminals."
