It’s in the exact same spot since Sept. 5 when the Giants took the division lead back. They both have only lost four games in that time. This is going to come down to who blinks first.

I didn’t think the Giants were going to sweep the Padres or that the the Dodgers would do any worse than 2 of three, but my heart sank when they tied it in the 9th and the Giants coughed up their lead shortly there after. It is comforting the Giants just need to hold serve and that the Dodgers have to close out against the Brewers but this may go to 163.

Don't look now but the Mariners are still alive. Four-game sweeps in Oakland are pretty rare for Seattle.

Playing 163 will be a detriment to the loser’s pitching staff. If they have the luxury of setting up the rotation, 163 would probably be Scherzer vs Gausman. The loser would go to the wildcard game vs Wainwright with Buehler or Descalfini (Giants fan, correct me if I’m wrong) meaning if they survive both, they are looking at their number three and four in the first two games when they meet again in the NLDS.

The Dodgers still have Kershaw and Urias, so they should be in a better spot to at least split in SF if they are the wildcard.

If it isn’t Desclafini it will be Logan Webb or Webb goes 163 (depending how the rotation lines up) with Gausman going in the Wild Card if they lose.

Giants would be better for not having to play 163 and then the wild card. I would think the Dodgers are better equipped to survive that run (assuming they don’t get KO’d by Waino).

The Rays could clinch the AL East this weekend with a good series at home against the putrid Marlins.
