McIlroy has played 45 holes and has led after exactly one hole. Poulter has played 30 holes and hasn’t led at all.

I thought Hunter Mahan was good when I heard him on the Rydercup.com livestream. I’m game for any new voices.

Where’s AK when you really need him? Imagine that?

Singles lineup worked well for the Europeans on paper:
    1. Two guys playing well this week, Rahm and Lowry, draw Ryder Cup rookies (Rahm vs. Scheffler, Lowry vs. Cantlay ... although Cantlay has been solid).
    2. Two of Euros veterans also drew players in their first or second Ryder Cup, Poulter vs. Finau and Westwood vs. English. Poults and Westy need to play much better but they've been there before.
    3. Two Euro guys playing horseshit this week, Casey and Rory, get sacrificed to a couple of guys who were likely to win anyway in Xander and Johnson. I don't think Harrington was counting on points from either them but X and DJ won't be going against any of their guys on form like Rahm, Lowry or Hovland.
    4. Fleetwood may finally show up against Spieth, and since it's the next to last match and Euros put some blue on the board, Fleetwood could feed off that.
    5. I think Koepka beats Wiesberger (that will be a dick-measuring contest off the tee) and Berger will beat Fitzpatrick but it's the last match and who knows how either will respond in the Euros get some momentum. But the only other matches I think are close to U.S. locks are X and DJ. Hatton is a bulldog who Justin Thomas might not shake.
    6. Sergio vs. Bryson? Who knows what will happen with those two basket cases. But it will be entertaining.

Finau's not a rookie. He went 2-1 in Paris in 2018.

After Saturday, maybe not. I do think just comparing teams strengths based on World Golf Rankings like a lot of the previews tend to do is semi-pointless. You can get on the team by finishing second in every event you play. You do that in the Ryder, you lose every match. I also thought the fact that many of the big time tourneys that players on both sides won which helped them earn their spots on the rosters having limited crowds (if any) made it hard to assess how a lot of the rookies would handle the event. Go USA!!

It was kind of a tell about the Euro chances when about two-three weeks ago McIlroy said he'd played too much golf this year. Not what one wants to hear from an indispensable star. One can compare the last Ryder Cup to this one just by looking at DJ's performances. When your top players are not winning, your team is unlikely to win the Cup.

Sorry ... I should change that to not really knowing how he will react under pressure.

Rahm's going to be hoping he tests positive again by the sixth hole.

American fans cheering poor European shots? The lack of dignity across all sports is staggering.

    Call me provincial.

All the horrific shit you say on the politics thread, but cheering fans are a bridge too far?
