I was also under the impression that Democrats won the presidency, and then, two special elections in Georgia. Hey, maybe they're shitting the bed in some special elections I don't know about. I'm just skeptical on Trump's loonies coming out to vote in a massive way in 2022, and plenty of Republicans have now hitched their wagon to the idea that the fringe is going to vote for them even if Trump's not on the ballot.

Maybe we could start a TRUTH thread so the rest of us who couldn't give two shits about it can discuss other more relevant political topics?

That's interesting. The most negative thing my wife will ever say about the Soviet Union is, "There were some problems." That's it. If you say, "What about the lines? What about the lack of freedom?" she'll wonder what the hell you're talking about. "We had everything we needed," she insists.

She was optimistic in the early 90s, however (naively so, I guess), figuring the good stuff would stay good and the "problems" would be fixed.

Instead, she describes the early 90s like this: "Somebody opened a sewer pipe, and all the shit from the West came pouring in."

There's a whole thing to be written about this way of thinking.

Is there an American equivalent to her line?

So a small percentage activists and a couple of House members are putting out "defund the police chatter" is evidence Democrats are too far to the left.

So given what we see from MAGA activists and a couple of House members don't we have evidence the GOP has moved too far to the right?

(And I like that Friedman doesn't even seem to understand what "defund the police" actually means. Of course, many in favor of it don't seem to either.)

It’s a fair criticism of the left. A knee jerk stupid reaction to a serious issue.
Or is it a serious issue?
Is excessive force by police more serious now than in the past 40 years? Or is it clickbait by lazy journalism and national news programming as well as left wing politicians who know that screaming race gets them elected in their Gerrymandered minority districts.
Has it risen in the same proportion as other violent crime? And since a significant number of police who are accused of excessive force are minorities themselves, where’s the racial animus in excessive force?
Or is excessive force a misplaced reaction by law enforcement to their perceived lack of consequences for law breaking by criminals?
