The State Department has issued its first official passport with the "X" gender marker.

"I want to reiterate, on the occasion of this passport issuance, the Department of State's commitment to promoting the freedom, dignity, and equality of all people – including LGBTQI+ persons," Ned Price, a department spokesperson, said.

Dana Zzyym, an intersex and nonbinary Colorado resident, received the first passport with the new marker, Lamba Legal said. Zzyym filed a lawsuit earlier this year arguing that it was impossible to accurately represent their gender with only two options: "male" and "female."

The marker will be available to all passport applicants by early 2022.​

I’m surprised that’s not the rule everywhere. Any public town meeting I’ve covered, people have to state what road they live on.
