Let’s talk about the masks for a minute.

When I spent the night in the hospital in August, I couldn’t get to sleep that night (because frankly I was terrified I was going to have a massive stroke at any time). I was bored, I had easy access to disposable masks, and I had a blood oxygen sensor attached to my finger … and I decided to try science.

I used a couple of different masks, one with the top bent around the bridge of my nose and one not. And I also breathed without a mask as a control.

Without fail, math or no mask, the monitor said I was consistently getting 94-95% blood oxygen level.

You’re fine. Don’t whine about how you’re breathing your own air or any other bullshit. You’re not, and you’re getting all the oxygen you need.

    Qwitcherbitchin.

    Maybe try a breath mint.

I can't wear the surgical masks, the fibers on the inside just irritate me. I have finally found a style of cloth mask, most of them have three layers, a chin shelf and of course a nose wire, and I don't have any issue wearing them for a flight or a game or whatever. I know everyone's different, but I'm happy with what I have

We have aisle seats in the first row
There's documentation you have to provide the French government. Your plane ticket, passport and vaccination card. Takes about a month to process, which for French bureaucracy is Usain Bolt-type speed.

Newest version of iOS says it keeps a copy of your vax info in your wallet. I've been carrying my vax card around for months, just in case even though I've pulled it out one time (concert).

Done. I'll do it after my quick trip to New Mexico this weekend.

No reason the mask would be responsible for dehydration. You probably drink less while wearing one. Which would be made worse on a plane.

And no evidence that masks impair health. Doctors and nurses and dental hygienists have been wearing them all day for decades.

They're uncomfortable, certainly, but they work.

We have the Olympic trials for mixed doubles curling in our coverage area this week, and 5 of the 10 teams have at least one player with local ties. I am a first-class Olympics rube but we've been having to go off releases and streams.

I wanted to go up there for the final, but USA Curling is requiring proof of vaccination AND proof of a negative test taken within 24 hours, which is especially problematic because none of the rapid testing sites are open on Sundays and the latest appointment I could find on a Saturday was a 3:45 at a Walgreens, which would mean I'd need to be in a restricted area at 3 p.m. for a final at 7 p.m.

That said, the biggest reason that we're going to have to cover off TV is that our production process requires a lot of direct input from editors (basically the designers aren't allowed to make any editorial decisions like changing headlines or cutting stories to fit), I need to give the rest of my guys Sunday off because we're in the peak of fall tournament season and the Vikings are Sunday Night Football, which means we can't just drop the curling story in on deadline.

Starting Nov. 10, Ball Arena in Denver (home to Nuggets and Avalanche) are requiring proof of vaccine or negative test within 72 hours. And no matter your vaccine status, masks are required at all times inside the arena.

I'm with the program on masks. But I understand (somewhat) why they are hated. Try wearing one with a pair of glasses in 95-degree heat.

As for effects, I knew a caregiver who wore an N-95 all day long and would have the line on her face. That line was not going away.

And I should add I double-masked on a full flight, for my own peace at the center.
