Music Thread (post a song)

Of the musical theatre variety...

Visited my daughter in NY last weekend, and we always like to see what Broadway tickets we can stumble into on the day of (she's a freshman studying MT up there). So, we score "Caroline, or Change" tickets for $40 apiece as it's finishing up its previews.

My God. What a show. If you're close...GO.

"Caroline..." is a revival of a 2004 show, and it's gonna set up a helluva showdown between Sharon D Clarke (performing in the clip below at the Olivier's in 2019 during the West End run of the show) and Sutton Foster in "Music Man" for the Best Actress/Revival Tony. Clarke's now starring in the role on Broadway, and won the Olivier for it. This is the 11 o'clock number, and holy God...(just wait for the note at 1:53):

Girls and Boys is as good a song in my lifetime. The sound penetrates all the way. The video is great too.

 

Just heard this for the first time tonight

 

That whole album is one incredible song after another. McMurtry is such a great storyteller.

 

He was 12 when he recorded this. Tell me why.....is it sooooooooooooooo?

 

I just found out today that this is what Michael Sembello looked like.

Still a song for the ages. Great lyrics.

 

That one line “And it wasn’t like we were an item to start with - it had no basis in fact” pretty much describes a scenario that is every teenage boy’s first heartbreak.

 

After a midlife divorce, I’m happily partnered with a girl who I pined for in high school but thought was out of my league. When I first heard that line “Cashing in on a 30-year crush/You can’t be young and do that …” it was all I could do to hold myself together.

Just secured tickets to see McMurtry in Atlanta in April. Very much looking forward to that.
