I like how the article implied they could get entry fees from Liberty. If they even consent to come, the Flames will be shaking them down for their dowry from the ones who split.

From an all-sports perspective, that lineup makes zero sense for Liberty. But hey, if you want to have to take weekend volleyball jaunts to El Paso and Las Cruces, go for it.

This makes more sense. If Marshall hangs around and Liberty joins, CUSA is somewhat more respectable of a football league and LU isn't quite on an island as it would be in a league without Marshall. I'm guessing LU doesn't go if Marshall leaves.

If this is true, you have an answer.

I know they want to be the Evangelical Notre Dame, but they can't even schedule many (if any) P5 programs.

If UConn could join CUSA as a football-only member, UMass might want to make sure it gets on that train. That said, they both might as well just go back to FCS because about six people care about either program.

They play Ole Miss next week and played Syracuse earlier in the year. They have some home games coming up in the near future with Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and some other ACC schools.
They play as many P5 opponents as any other G5 school, anywhere from one to three a year.

Marshall to the Sun Belt is official, JMU BOV today approved an FBS move. CUSA is probably dead.

Marshall has known they were going for a week or more. I really don't understand the dithering unless it was to take a look at the list of schools they'd be playing Daddy over. There's no way in hell they were going to stay in CUSA and let Western Kentucky take their slot in the Belt. Hell, it was Marshall and So Miss who started the "Let's join a more regional Belt" conversation in earnest.

If they were going to take a long look the time to do it was ten days ago, before JMU and Old Dominion made their move to the Belt.

I think some of the delay was on the Sun Belt's end, as well. If you notice, they've announced one of the four new schools each day. Smart PR move to stay in the news cycle for a full week and make four splashes instead of one quick big one, along with giving each new member its own moment in the spotlight.

How long is a conference allowed to exist as a shell before somebody steps in and declares shenanigans on the whole fraud? There’s talk now that the MAC may scoop up Western Kentucky and MTSU, which would leave Conference USA with three members. But they all seem determined to hang on and call up a bunch of lower level schools so they can collect exit fees and hang onto a basketball auto bid. It’s like the last contestants in one of those “hands on a boat” contests.
