As this dude makes clear, the idea of Critical Race Theory as an issue is that it allows whites to say Race is the issue while pretending it's not about their own racism.

But it is going to work. The GOP is going to run riot in Virginia tomorrow. I’m just not sure how much of it is due to their base being juiced versus how much of it is Democrats discouraged that the party can’t get its shit together in DC.

I've not seen Trump discussed much on this thread since he was soundly defeated. He is really not as interesting as his followers think he is.

Interesting fact: Of the last 16 Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial elections, exactly one, Terry McAuliffe in 2013, was won by the candidate of the incumbent President's party. Also interesting. Nobody is talking about Phil Murphy getting re-elected in New Jersey, although he has a significant polling lead, which would make it at least 16 out of the last 18.

You know what's interesting? What's really been lost, over the last however many months, is a sense of really changing economics in America for the better in small-but-solid ways. We're gonna fall short on some pretty terrific things - like great leave policies - because the right is full of assholes, and the left is engaged in an intermural war over whether we need to have a tyranny-of-the-urgent discussion on the furthest-left positions. It's actually a little heartbreaking. Can't make the country a little better because the penny has to be a pound on the left, and the right is busy imagining a fake penny.

The fact that there is nothing else on the ballot in the year after a presidential election means that the voters aggrieved by the results of that race are more likely to show up.

IMO, Murphy has run a pretty weak campaign.
