Hard to argue. Though I almost admire Norman for holding onto his world tour grudge for a quarter-century.

And the grudge was inflated to epic proportions. Norman's original idea was 8-10 tournaments, drawing the top-30 in the world, interspaced between the majors -- which would have devastated non-major events on the PGA Tour. After Finchem put the kibosh on it, his World Golf Championship concept was three tournaments with between 50-75 of the world's top players ... but it also gave access to money leaders on the Asian, Australian and South African Tours.
Norman, believing this was somehow a carbon copy of his idea, then went into his 25-year-long snit. It's partly the reason why he's played next to no Champions Tour events.
Except Finchem gave him credit during Norman's Hall of Fame induction for coming up with the idea of some kind of global events. Not good enough.
Fine. Norman has gone into the crazy-uncle rabbit hole a long time ago anyway.

Bubba's got a new book out about his mental health struggles and is getting the full golf media carwash. I don't doubt for a second that his issues were/are very real, it's just tough for me to separate that from him being such a massive jackass on a regular basis.

And Yaeger ghosted it for him. I'll pass.

It was 39 degrees today at tee time, changes your game and the course. An outing meant a shotgun start for everybody else, so I began on #8. I am working on some changes in my stance, so struggled off the tee for awhile. But closed out in the gloaming with consecutive pars and actually got home in two (!) on the 495-yard par 5 final hole where I had a chance for a birdie putt. The single plane swing is a success, even with the old smaller head TaylorMade Bubble driver I've used. Finished with eight bogies, the first time I've been bogey or par on more than half the holes.

A couple of sleepers, Bayonet and Black Horse; great conditions after recent atmospheric river. Nice layouts and long.

Great day yesterday, private dining room dinner at local place for 10, then poker until 1. Buddy weekends are the best.

I tell you guys all the time, get one on the calendar each year and keep it there so it’s built into family calendar.

Bayonet, before it was modernized oh, I'd guess it's been 15-20 years ago, was one mean SOB -- one of the hardest courses I'd ever seen. Hit it off the fairway and you'd be muttering to yourself once you got to your ball, "What in the hell am I going to do now?" Answer: Take your medicine and pitch it back onto the short grass.

The place is much prettier now, though.

I'm in one of these. Believe it or not, we all went to high school together between '67 and '76. We've known each other for more than 50 years. One guy lives in San Diego and he organizes the tournament at the club where he lives. We've had 36 players (the limit the course would allow), this year was 30. With spouses and friends who don't golf, the entire group was about 50. It started out as 4 guys about 10 years ago. One guy's daughter died at age 24 from cancer. She had been involved with humanitarian efforts abroad. So the group started donating to a scholarship fund at her university in her name. Now, the total is around $180,000, all from private donations. It is a really fun couple of days.
