What you are discussing really are savings vs. investment. Neither is good or bad. They both serve purposes for people. Unfortunately, though, the individual decision making regarding those broad decisions (consume for immediate utility vs. forgoing immediate consumption to yield a benefit or benefits in the future) has been completely destroyed by our government over the last half century +. People live a fantasy and politicians claim credit for creating prosperity. ... on the back of pulling future growth forward artificially. Broadly in terms of what people call fiscal and monetary policy, they have continuously distorted the perceived benefits for savings / investment to incentivize people to consume more and more and more. There is a cost to that, which we have had to pay with debt crises that have occurred in increasing frequency, and which we are going to have to pay in the future one way or another. The increasing consumption has come on the back of future growth that will we won't enjoy.

Yes, it is a tough sell. But at some point, it's likely not going to be a sell. It's going to be a necessity.

However we describe it, I think our current version of things is unsustainable.

Reimagining how to live, individually and collectively, is the real struggle.

And I'm not convinced that profiting from self-interest is the solution to problems caused by . . . profiting from self-interest.

My town and my former employer makes the board!

In the Fall of 1862, Ambrose Burnsides stole a march on Lee and moved from the Manassas area down to Stafford County and the Rappahannock River - leading eventually to the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Wilderness when he, Hooker, and Grant each tried to breach the defensive line into Spotsylvania County.

The Union occupied Stafford County (and the north bank of the Rappahannock) basically for the rest of the war.

I've long maintained the Rappahannock (and the Stafford-Spotsylvania border) has marked the North-South divide ever since, with mostly rural Spotsylvania south of the river, and D.C. suburb Stafford north of it.

Wind and solar already make up a larger percentage of the country’s energy mix than nuclear.
Aside from the disposal problem, you also have the issue of siting, security and cost. It’s between $6-9 billion for an 1,100 MW plant.

I believe every nuclear plant in New England has been decommissioned except for Seabrook, and it took decades to build it.

    This sounds so bloody familiar:

"In a recent (focus group) session, participants were extolling the virtues of Boris Johnson, with one describing the Prime Minister – a politician on his third marriage and who has fathered at least six children – as “a family man”. This prompted one despairing shadow minister to ask, “Whose family?” Another suggested the comment simply reflected how many families Johnson has created.

That the Prime Minister can be sincerely described by voters as a family man is evidence of his near-unique ability to avoid the sort of criticisms that would destroy the careers of other politicians."

If trump died, how many of his people would believe it? We could win a lot of states by getting the name Donald Trump, or something close, on the ballot. A not very small percentage of his people would still vote for him. Let’s use their stupidity against them!

You know all the "Epstein didn't kill himself" memes?

When Trump dies, it's going to be that, but worse ... especially if he dies in the next five years or so.
