I wouldn’t be so quick to believe TV analysts. They are like weatherpersons, straight up fear forecasting to get you emotionally involved and to keep watching

The judge should be disbarred. But the prosecutor and his staff are grossly incompetent.

The prosecution has been a clown show from the start. They couldn't even prove Rittenhouse was violating the curfew because they couldn't prove a curfew was in place, let alone the witnesses who have given weak or insufficient testimony in what should have been a situation where cross-examination would have brought out Rittenhouse's motives.

And yeah, once the jury returns a "not guilty" verdict, there's no double jeopardy allowed. (Thank you, Fifth Amendment.) You get one shot to find him guilty, unless there's a hung jury or proof of a serious miscarraige of justice. Unless you can charge Rittenhouse with something different, he can't be re-tried for the same crime.

Expect much of the same in the Arbery case. Even a great prosecutor might have a hard time getting enough evidence from that evening -- since the only other witness is dead -- to convince the jury. You're going to need to prove intent beyond a reasonable doubt, remember, in cross-examination.

Might the jury convict on one charge and acquit on another?
I'm guessing they're going to acquit -- and maybe they should -- in the death of the guy who lunged at the gun. Haven't seen the video. Don't know how close he came to grabbing it.
I think I'd take a split decision as long as this klansman is convicted of at one or both of the others, in which guilt seems more provable.

This could go under the police thread, but this is a good a spot as any.

Young, sobbing and screaming, pleaded with police dozens of times, “You’ve got the wrong house!” But the group of male officers handcuffed her for 40 minutes, including 10 minutes when she was not allowed to put clothes on until they determined they were not at the right apartment and she did not commit a crime

Nine of the 15 officers or sergeants involved in the raid were White and all but one of the 15 were male, the report says.

The racism thread has become a catch all for any police misconduct, whether or not there is any evidence of racist intent. So why not?

This is simple. The cops should be fired. And she should be pursuing a very serious civil action.

The fact that this happened three years ago and they still have their thumbs up their asses about firing people is mind boggling. There is no transparency or accountability when it comes to the police because way too many people put them on a pedestal. It allows them to get away with impunity for all kinds of stupidity and abuse of power.
