And the swastika didn’t use to be a symbol for Nazis.

Hall of mirrors sums up how I feel about him and the society of idiots like him we have allowed to thrive in this country.

My "common sense" set of facts is that he voluntarily went armed to a place that he knew he would find conflict. And he killed three people.

There is nothing more basic to our criminal laws than protecting people's lives. We criminalize all kinds of victimless things, and at the same time we have eroded protections to life and property, which is all the criminal laws we should have.

He killed three people. They didn't just show up in his life and threaten him. He went out looking for trouble. He deserves fairness and due process and the ability to mount a defense, but if those are the actual facts, the law itself should not be ambiguous about him needing to be punished for it.

I haven't watched a lot of it, because I know he's not going to be convicted. But what struck me when he was explaining how he was threatened, it was clear the first person he shot was yelling threatening things, but he was kind of yelling them into the ether. He did not corner Rittenhouse and issue a threat to his face, he was just yelling.

It still amazes me that someone has not been more ... assertive ... when running across George Zimmerman.

I know I oversimplify some things, but...

    1. Did Rittenhouse intentionally travel across state lines to where the event happened? Yes
    2. Was he illegally in possession of a firearm when he got there? Yes
    3. Did he kill someone? Yes

    Case closed. Guilty.

It's also the title of my late friend's first novel.

As relevant in our political moment as it was in his.

The judge should be unseated for not silencing his phone in court.
