The idea of Christie heaving Palpatine over the railing is a good laugh to start an afternoon walk.
This weakling caught the virus just so he could play debate coachy for Trump.

Dems in safe seats and states should absolutely be pondering their retirements if they're over 70. Pick your successor etc. Special elections can be a crapshoot, particularly if a sitting legislator steps down due to scandal. Added bonus, getting someone fresh in the seat will improve seniority for the district. I'm thinking about 60-70 percent of the Dems in Congress are over 65.

I like Speier enough to goose another term or two out of her. She's young enough to pretend to be Nancy's little sister.

I shudder to think what could be worse than the Macon to Valdosta run.

In seriousness, the worst stretch of interstate is the 200 miles of I-49 between Shreveport and Lafayette. Very few services and Smokey Bears crawling all over it. You can't even get a decent boudin till Opelousas.

I must point out that the Cross-Bronx Expressway is technically part of the interstate system. So is the Schuykill Expressway in Philadelphia. Or for that matter, the Southeast Expressway in Boston. Each is crumbling through constant overuse. No amount of Biden asphalt can fix that latter problem. Those roads are always gonna suck.

    Sadly true.

Funny we never see the same in Western Europe, where gas is $8 a gallon and the roads are mostly beautiful. As are the trains.

I have driven in New York City for 50 years. I learned to drive here. Every alley, street, highway and parkway from the Rockaways to Tottenville to City Island has always been a ruin of rotten concrete and corroded rebar.

The BQE is in really bad shape in spots, to the point that there are some engineers warning that we may be only a few years before some of the raised parts collapse. The clock is ticking and it is very heavily trafficked. They have known about it for decades, but dithered and kicked the can down the road. It wasn't entirely the money. One thing is that it needs to be shut down, but it is so heavily used that there will be a chain reaction that effects several other roads. Then, because of the way it is constructed, and the areas it goes through (thanks Robert Moses!), it makes it nearly impossible to fix without causing mayhem and quality of life issues for several neighborhoods.

Step 1 for the 21st-century reimagining of New York is to take the city back from the personal automobile.
