All three people he shot were white.

Sure. But the comparison is apt.

Rittenhouse was in Kenosha to guard the Gas n' Gulp from a "Black Lives Matter" protest on the occasion of Jacob Blake's shooting.

He'd argue he was there to protect it from rioters and looters, not BLM protestors.

The problem with the people who make everything into a racial thing is that they put themselves on the same plane as the people who conflated all civil rights / BLM protestors and their messages with the people who were running like mad through stores and stealing stuff.

It's a bit inconvenient for people who want to do the "white guy" thing that his victims were white, not black. This isn't Ahmaud Arbery.

It is also impossible to conclude that he was found not guilty for some racial reason, because 1) even though the riots sprung from the Jacob Blake protests, the riots themselves drew all kinds of people, and 2) this country is gun happy and it's entirely plausible that their verdict could have been completely colorblind, but based on the batshit notion we have drifted to that people should be allowed to roam the streets with assault rifles and have wide lattitude to claim self defense when the utterly predictable happens.

I wonder if the prosecution might have done better charging something along the lines of reckless endangerment.

I further wonder if we'll see any sort of federal charge on the basis of the interstate travel.

I didn't pay close attention, but my sense was that the prosecutor didn't do a great job.

That said, I don't think the problem was with the case. I think the problem is with the law. Our criminal law should put a primacy on life and property. It really should be limited to that. Instead, we have made all these laws criminalizing everything and anything, but we can't get something simple like life / murder right.

The gun fetish has gotten so out of control that those stand your ground laws essentially have legalized the most important thing that should be illegal. And until we fix that, this shit will happen. Self defense, as a defense, should pretty much be limited to someone breaking into your home and charging you with a machete.

Travel is not illegal. He did not travel over a state line with the gun.

Not on the basis of the gun.

On the basis of inciting to riot, or committing an act of violence in furtherance of a riot, etc. Federal.

I hope to hell the Feds get him for something. That kid went out hunting and bagged a couple of BLM protesters.

Everyone knows it looks and smells like attempted murder; unfathomable that someone is found not guilty. Any minority gets the chair; we know it.
