I've always wanted to go help with a genuine hog killing, scalding, scraping and all the works. I've killed feral hogs before, and gutted them and cut them up, but not domestics for putting up along with head cheese and anything else.

I can't recall it being a pleasant experience. Honestly, I was little when we last did it, and my main job was "stay out of the way." We'd kill 6-8 for multiple families. My grandpa, three great uncles, and a couple of other neighbors who just brought theirs over for the occasion. They had a system.
I do remember one of my great uncles making killer sausage.

This year should be a good Thanksgiving. We zoomed last year.
We are headed to the coast first thing in the morning, having lunch at a winery, and going to see the Band of Oz tomorrow night. Thursday will be the traditional family Thanksgiving. Friday and Saturday will be spent fishing.

Did a semifinal last weekend. I had a final last year and I'm ineligible for a final for four years after doing one, so 2024 is when I'm due up again. Got four college games (Division II) this season so no complaints.

Is Colorado as short of officials as a lot of other states are?

Of all the wants, wishes and bucket-list things that people might have, I never in a million years would've guessed that this could've been one of them.:)

Extremely. I wasn't supposed to even do a semifinal this year because I had a final last year. That and several guys turned back games last weekend because the mileage allotment is terrible. And they bumped it up to seven-man crews for the 11-man title games. So perhaps the four-year wait will waived going forward. Basketball is just as bad. I get emails every day looking to get games covered and now the high school assignors are doing the same thing.

Gotta shoot them and stick them first. Don’t scald them too long or you’ll set the hair.

Or just have the Amish do it and watch.

Culture clash; my family eats turkey dinner around 6 ish (sometimes 7), for the past 26 yrs my wife (trooper she is) still gives me the side eye because her family did the 2 pm turkey supper (?) and then ate some leftovers/scraps for dinner. We addressed lunch with my mom making a traditional Chinese soup dish on the stove and people straggling in during the day and partaking in the soup dish (and desserts) while waiting for the big dinner. I'm presuming most everyone here gets the earlyish supper and doesn't wait until the traditional dinner time?
