Maybe in terms of tone, but the character fits in much better with the MCU.

    The Punisher was violence porn.

Bad stuff happening doesn’t negate the overall light tone to MCU films. This is not a criticism. The unending dreariness of the DCEU is largely a turnoff. It works for Batman, but the somber tone of the Cavill Superman flicks is really offputting.

Marvel has succeeded mightily largely because of that lighter tone. The first two Thor movies compared to Ragnarok illustrate this nicely. Thor is better when they lean into Chris Hemsworth’s comedic talent.

But there really isn’t an MCU movie that has been produced that makes you think Bernthal’s Punisher could plausibly fit in with this universe.

True! I mean, I can't imagine them doing "Logan," which to me is the best non-Batman, non-Marvel superhero flick.

By that argument, the character we've been speculating about wouldn't fit, either. Even Daredevil can be brutal, though he isn't a killer. I'm not suggesting they put a Punisher series on Disney+, but he can work very well as a supporting character, often an antagonist, as he did in the second season of Daredevil, which was the best season on any of Marvel's Netflix series.

I agree they can make him work. WandaVision and Loki (and Ragnarok, for that matter) showed that they are able and willing to take some creative risks with the MCU. If they want Bernthal to reprise the role, they may need to risk making a film (or show) that doesn’t have a laugh line every 5-7 minutes.

I actually just finished Season 1 of Punisher on Netflix last night and yeah ... not my cup of tea in the violence department.

They are already supposedly committed to making an R-rated movie with a third Deadpool movie in production.

Supposedly, they are also going to have She-Hulk breaking the fourth wall in the Disney+ series. For those who don't know, She-Hulk was doing that in the comics since before Deadpool even existed.

Maybe we can get the original Punisher to show up.
