Just a few opines a month in.

Mr. Sesker clearly has jumped in full-speed trying to educate himself on communities within the coverage area. Good on him.

Pet-peeve, however: Introductory column, fine. Subsequent columns ... mostly rambling. Got a strong news story or strong take? Write a column. If you don't, don't.
The most recent piece about a previously undefeated high school football team losing in the state championship game was so sugary (especially its conclusion), I thought I was experiencing a Mountain Dew kick.

He needs to work with a couple of his writers on the proper use of "Its" and "Their" as well as "Would lead to" or "Would take a 10-point lead."

Every "would" that one of my writers puts in a game story gets taken right out. The shit wouldn't happen. It did happen.

Whoever started the "would" trend in sportswriting should be publicly immolated.

I would like to concur with this post but I would have to check my previous copy to see if I would actually agree that the premise would be correct.

Were you a finalist for the job and bitter about not getting the position or something? Jesus Christ this has to be the most attention anyone has paid to something in Quincy, Illinois since John Adams grew up there. Go get some fresh air

Professors in college need to address this. Mine did, and we didn't even have a journalism degree. A gentle word from an editor will also go a long way.
In my experience and opinion, most writers — especially new ones — don't even realize they're doing it.

Liut obviously knows a lot about the area, and specifically, the paper in question. It's ironic that you post a stupid comment about how much attention this thread is receiving and how Liut should "go get some fresh air" ... yet you're commenting on it, too. What does that say about you? Sounds like you need to get some fresh air after your next barf.
