Democrats are playing the long game. Many figure purity is more important than winning in the moment, and once the electoral/representative system has been overhauled - the end of the filibuster, of the electoral college, of a Congressional house (Senate) that gets two representatives per state - having remained pure, so the theory goes, will pay its dividends.

Democrats at the moment would prefer to lose on principle than win through the kind of appeasement that doesn’t feel pure.

 

So you stipulate that they lost a lot elections in the 70s and 80s and yet suggest they never had bad messaging until Fox News?

 

Back then it wasn't messaging - it was trying to hold on to the Southern Dems they still had while their coalition continued re-align, labor began to decline and college educated women swung hard to the Dems as Roe became such a lightning rod in party politics.

 

Manchin'll be gotten by the Dems.
