I stand corrected, though it does seem like a bit of an upset.

For the second time this week, I guess that's why I'm not the cops and courts reporter.

I’m never going to say that jurors get it right all the time. Or make decisions based solely on facts and evidence, but most of the time they try to do it. And race plays a part in court less often than it does on the street or in business.

IMO, Kim Potter is a victim of societal racism. If she had accidentally shot some white yahoo, there's no way she would have been charged with manslaughter.

She shouldn't go to jail over the holidays, because she's a Catholic:

I mean she may not have meant to pull her gum but there's no question she murdered that guy. Ultimately, isn't that what this is about? As an officer of the law her duty is to protect the public, we have to be able to trust her and everyone in uniform to know the difference between her taser and her gun.

That’s exactly right. And in the of the great civil rights leaders of the 1980’s- 202? Payback is a bitch. And that’s exactly what progressive politics is all about. We have progressed to the point that we are going to fuck you like your ancestors fucked us. For the same reason that African American political leaders won’t consider sharing power with Asians and Hispanics like they demand it from whites because Fuck You.

in this case it doesn’t mean the law was incorrectly applied. It’s more likely that the law is wrong and was designed to make a constituency feel better rather than being just and fair.

There is nothing wrong with the statute.

She was convicted on criminally negligent homicide / manslaughter charges. Those statutes apply to any accidental death in which the person who caused it was reckless or negligent. At best, that explains what happened when she killed that man if you watch the body cam footage.

As for the "If it had been a white person," stuff. ... it wasn't a white person. So it's moot.

What is just is just. Justice isn't a relative thing, as much as some people want to do sweeping racial / racist generalizations. She wasn't on trial because of any of that bullshit. She killed a man. The only question was if she was so reckless and negligent in doing it, that she needed to go to prison.

She did kill the guy, but it’s clear from the body cam footage that she was absolutely shattered by it.

Or she should win an Oscar.

Mr. Abbott, fascinating insight on juries. I’ve been on just one (civil case) and the suit involved middle-aged white guys, but I felt like we all took our duty seriously.

Her seeming to be shattered by it is likely why she was charged with manslaughter and not homicide.

She killed someone. There wasn't 'no question' she committed murder. In fact, she was convicted of manslaughter. First and second degree murder in Minnesota requires intent to kill.
