Just got back from Licorice Pizza. My kind of movie, the 19 year old found it a little slow.

I thought some good parts but way too long without needing to be so.

The Alpinist was interesting but I find it very hard to watch those free climbers do their thing.

The song is high camp and funny. Robby Benson looks like a Keane painting and the movie is a sodden mess. At least The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia kept its sense of humor.

Being the Ricardos is good and Nicole Kidman was outstanding as Lucille Ball. It dragged at parts but ended strong.

I just watched "Riot in Cell Block 11" on YouTube, starring young Neville Brand and one of the all-time great heavies, Leo Gordon. Gordon was the Danny Trejo of his day, a real-life tough guy who turned to acting after serving a stretch in prison for armed robbery. Police shot him on the stomach while making the arrest that sent him away.

Some years later, he was in the John Wayne film "Hondo" where the Duke was supposed to shoot him in the belly. Gordon doubled up while acting out the scene, which drew the star's ire. "When you get hit with a slug in the gut you fly backwards," he reportedly told Gordon, who responded by showing Wayne the scar from his bullet wound. "Yeah? I got hit point blank and I went forward."

"Riot in Cell Block 11" was shot at Folsom State Prison. When the warden learned that Gordon had been cast in the film he almost canceled the location shoot because Gordon had made a poor impression on his first visit -- as an inmate.

Lots of notable character actors show up in the film as well -- Paul Frees, Whit Bissell, Dabbs Greer and Alvy Moore among them.

Or that charming tribute to a violent gang rape, "Coward of the County"?

Yeah ... but there's way too much 2020-vintage dialogue, too.
