ESPN's Bears writer, Jeff Dickerson, has died of colon cancer at 44, leaving behind an orphan son, Parker, after Caitlin Dickerson died two years ago. Just absolutely heartbreaking.

    There's a gofundme started here:

Parker's Fund, organized by Jen Etling Hobin

Schefter has been tweeting all day about those who are donating. Jeffrey Lurie did $10,000. Many others, including teams. So, so sad.

Currently north of half a million, including 25 grand each from Dan Snyder and Jim Irsay.

I didn't know Jeff, but I do know there's a warning in his untimely death.

Get a colonoscopy, especially if your family has a history of cancer.

There are home tests available now for early detection, too.

The outpouring of support for Parker, Jeff's son, has been truly remarkable. I had no idea how big Jeff was in Chicago and the presence he had on the ESPN Radio affiliate until his death.

The thing that sucks is that they tell you to get screened starting at 45. Jeff was only 44. I had to prove colon cancer in my family (grandfather died from it) in order to get insurance coverage at 39.

Same. Mom had it at 49 and myself and my siblings were told to start screening at 39.

I didn't either. But more than a million bucks in that GoFundMe says it all.

I pooped in the box in June, right before we moved. A few weeks later got a letter that said, "Your sample has been analyzed, and results have been sent to your primary physician."

Never heard anything. I'm assuming thaty good. No history in the family.
