So sorry, Moddy. 2021 was a big year of loss for the people in my world. Several of my friends were widowed or lost parents. None Covid-related.

Thanks all. I'd been holding it together pretty well. Stayed busy. Drove to my son's today, we'll head down together in the morning. They added a video to the obituary (featuring an early appearance by me as a 12-year-old who had HAIR) and I lost it watching that. Tomorrow is going to be a hard day. I talked to his daughter-in-law today, a brilliant woman who runs her own business and kicks a lot of ass. She's keeping things on track and has assured me she'll do whatever my sister needs in the coming days and weeks.

So sorry to hear this, Moddy. Drive safe. I hope his (and your) family rides this out as well as is possible.

Is there some trick to finding a dog who is NOT a pit bull/American Staffordshire terrier (since the shelters seem to be 97% these dogs?).

I swear, when we last adopted 13 years ago it wasn't like that. I hate to dismiss these poor animals, but my wife is afraid of their powerful jaws, and we have a couple of older cats.

Oh, well. Another shelter trip today. Found a sweet elderly hound last week, but shelter said she's having some health problems after being spayed and cannot be adopted until/if it is resolved.
