"I think if it was me that wasn't vaccinated I wouldn't be getting an exemption. You know, but well done to him for getting clear to come to Australia and compete." -- Jamie Murray

It's getting wilder by the hour. It's nearing 3 a.m. in Melbourne and the most recent reports from three hours ago were that he's been stuck in an airport over a visa issue, possible denied entry.

Color me surprised that Australia insists on visas from everywhere except New Zealand. Figured it was one of those "Welcome, mate!" places.

Heck, Ukraine doesn't require visas. :)

Surprised Ukraine doesn't require Visas with the throngs of people who are eager to visit.

I think Djokovic is an idiot.

But the delay notwithstanding, even if it is funny. ... if they deny him entry, they are jerking him around. Don't give him a medical exemption to play and then deny him getting into the country when he arrives.

    I disagree.
He thinks he's above the rules. Jerk him around and kick his ass right back out.

The Australians allowed him to be above the rules. They gave him a medical exemption that allowed him to come and play.

Don't do that and then play games with local and national politicians flexing their muscles over the visa after he has actually flown over. Either they should have told him he couldn't come before he got on a plane or they need to fix the visa quickly.

FWIW, I think they shouldn't have chosen to give him an exemption if they have vaccination rules. But once they made the exemption, it's on them.

Judging by the tweets I read, the state of Victoria signed off on the sporting exemption but the federal government is in charge of customs entry and they got blindsided by this.
