If the show is going to be down for a bit - they could do a lot worse than just packaging the various "cut for time" sketches that were taped during the dress rehearsal but didn't make the live show. I'd even be okay if the just reached into the bin going back 20-30 years and did random sketches that were never produced. Maybe some from the HW and W Bush eras, Clinton and Obama etc. References that were timely at the time but that make no sense now. It would be entertaining.

OK, because I’m that way, I looked up *fanous,* and this is what I found on the pedias:

Fanous or Fanoos (Egyptian Arabic: فانوس‎ IPA: [fæˈnuːs], pl. فوانيس [fæwæˈniːs]), also widely known as Fanous Ramadan (Arabic: فانوس رمضان‎),[1] is a folk and traditional lantern used to decorate streets and homes in the month of Ramadan. With their origins in Egypt, they have since spread across the Muslim world and are a common symbol associated with the holy month.[2]

    Cool.

Yeah, hope they bring Paul Rudd back ASAP to do a real show. Always love seeing Tina Fey and they did what they could on short notice.

I regret the reason, but I'm glad they're doing it. That really was an excellent episode.

That modern retelling of Family Matters... :D

Pretty good episode so far. Was wondering if they would've tried tracking down Rita Moreno for a cameo in the cold open, but I don't know how vulnerable she is with her age and COVID.

BTW, did anyone — and I mean anyone — go to see the West Side Story remake? They hyped the hell out of it, but once it came out, crickets.

It's kind of gotten slaughtered at the box office, like all non-Spiderman and Dune stuff. Basically, unless it's a spectacle, people aren't willing to go see it, and I don't think a musical counts, even if it's (by all accounts) quite splendid. WSS and Into the Heights both seem like flicks that'll have a really long life on streaming services, though.

The gritty Urkel reboot was so awesome.

Let's be clear - the target audience for WSS are probably the most reluctant to go see a movie at the theater. Thought Debose was phenomenal - like gee I wish she was in the regular cast phenomenal. Perhaps SNL should start looking at Broadway people instead of the usual sketch/improv crowd when casting.

Curious what changed between now and the Christmas special to allow them to resume normal shows. It isn't like Omicron is done.

And that NBA sketch had to be the most minutes the Sacramento Kings have logged on network TV in 20 years.

Not all the cast was there. Definitely more, but the final cast shot was definitely short. Aidy and Cicily were MIA, for example. (I know they often are) But definitely not the packed stage.

That Double Dare sendup needed the final prize to be a trip to the Space Center in Huntsville to be totally legit.

So, are we going to have a reference to Colin and Pete buying that Staten Island ferry?
