Penny Hardaway unleashes on Memphis media

Boy, he really let it fly, didn’t he? Sounded like misdirected anger and frustration, rather than outright resentment toward the media.

 

Penny apologized to the school, the fans, the players, but not the media; perhaps that relationship is being smoothed over in private.

 

Even harder than the JVs ... oh, this is college.

I was fortunate to cover a coach who accepted my smart ass comment and came back with a stellar quote.
I had just covered Pac-10 Media Day and Big West Media Day, and was hitting my two local mid-majors for basketball previews. At that point, my brain was fried. So when this coach said that his players were working hard, I said, "Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, you're the 22nd coach I've talked to in the past two days and everybody is working hard ...." He looked at me and frowned. Then said, "Well, I have to make sure we're the ones doing it and not just talking about it."
His name was John Olive. He was the coach at Loyola Marymount for a brief time. Great guy who couldn't win there.

 

I've known a lot of guys who couldn't win and didn't blame it on people outside the program.

 

I think this is the dominant opinion right now, no?
