Weve been helping an Afghani family that relocated to our area. He was a lawyer over, but he is working in a grocery store here. I know the mayor of our city has been trying to get him into a law firm at least as immigration law clerk. I gave them a bunch of old toys my kids grew out of and bought the kids some clothes as well as a functional cell phone. One of my other friends also gave them a cell so at least he and his wife can reach each other when he is at work. They don’t have a car, so he is walking to work. The help has come word of mouth, which is kind of odd. There is no one group helping him, it’s just people reaching out.

Nearly 60 years of 'police reform' got us from this

No justification ever for police abusing anyone. But 60 years of police reform has also produced exponentially more violent crime too.

LOL violent crime in the US fell 49% between 1993 and 2019. And that's based on FBI statistics.

Use the Bureau of Justice Statistics and you'll see a 74% decline.

So I guess 30 of those years of police reform worked.

Other than Chauvin ? No idea. Were those cops in 1963 Birmingham disciplined for kneeling on that lady's neck?

Is this a race problem? Or a police training problem?

That Chauvin was eventually charged with murder doesn't necessarily mean "police reform" changed anything.

Maybe it means sometimes people are willing to believe what they see on bystander video.

Well, if "police reform" hasn't changed anything ...

    Yes.

People say there should be more social workers in the field. That of course is true. But why aren't forces having more of their people take social worker-like training?

That’s because I was active in the criminal justice system during those years, having served in the war on drugs, the crack wars, and now fighting the murder wars.
