Has "police reform" changed anything? Or has the society in which this same sort of policing occurs changed around it?

There was video of the Rodney King beating too, and many of those officers were indicted.

    But they were all acquitted

If the answers are, in order, "No" and "Yes", then arguing "for" police reform is a hard dollar.

I think it's a dead phrase, a useless phrase when talking about how to overhaul policing.

I'd be happier if we could re-imagine policing, and likewise restructure those budgets to reflect more and better community engagement and a lot less weaponry.

Sadly, since 2001 or thereabouts it's been a lot easier to give the cops armored personnel carriers than it has been to retrain them.

Don't forget that it's also become a lot easier for cops to simply seize stuff and use the proceeds to buy armored personnel carriers, etc.

Yep, the 4th Amendment to the Constitution might as well be erased. It's been negated for more than 30 years.

    Agree with all of it.

Crime would go up for awhile though.

The cops do too much and are asked to do too much. Hell, schools do too much. But if we ask them to do less it’s going to take some time before citizenry at large change their behavior.
