It was another of those -- I have no idea how it is going to work with this host and by the end it worked out pretty much all around

I enjoyed the apartment association sketch. It would've been a good spot for a cameo from Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez to promote their show, though I know the Martins were on the Paul Rudd show not too long ago.

Were those dancing penises? Or just mushrooms with big balls?

    Go to Bed Bitch!!!

The writing seems to be better this year. The premises more imaginative and good lines all the way through - the Manning bit was inspired. The Beauty and the Beast knock-off was solid - "Yeah, I think I know what happens next" and "Don't worry, I have 300 of those mirrors."

Even the late add of the line about the Brady retirement in the open.

Apparently, Kanye's latest diatribe revolved around him paying Michael Che to leave SNL so he would no longer work with Pete Davidson (his ex Kim's new boy toy).

    Che's response:

I know he's not for everyone, but I think Pete Davidson is hilarious.

It's weird - I don't know if he's ever recaptured the magic of his very first WU stand-up set. That's probably his peak to me, but I've still found him enjoyable here and there. His fame outside of the show would make you think he's the biggest current star, though, instead of somewhere around 3 to 7 on the call sheet, depending on the skits that week.

I think Pete has found his niche with the filmed bits. I really enjoyed the film of his old, washed-up self from the Paul Rudd episode.

Most of his live appearances seem to pretty much be variations of himself, even when he's in costume or doing an impression.

I do find it weird that the audience seemed to be a lot more "excited" about Jost or Davidson showing up on the show after it became public that they were dating Johannsen and Ariana Grande.

I had a hunch we would get a serious cold open with all that was going on -- like after 9/11, Sandy Hook and the Vegas shootings.
