    I mean, it’s unprovable, right?

But vaccine hesitancy was up across the board in the second half of 2020. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but Democrats went from something like 50 percent who would “definitely get it” to less than 30 percent in only a few months.

And that’s not even talking about the effects of several prominent Democrats trashing the vaccine on a national campaign stage.

Prominent Democrats did no such thing. Several said they wouldn't trust a vaccine touted by Trump unless it was also endorsed by medical researchers and approved through the normal process. That's saying "I don't trust Trump," not "I don't trust vaccines."

    That’s what Kamala Harris said.

Biden said repeatedly that not only the vaccine but the entire process was tainted by political influence.

Either way, as I said, hesitancy was up across the board in the second half of 2020, for a variety of reasons.

Keep in mind that the "expected deaths" models are always being updated to reflect changing facts on the ground, so this is not going to be all that noticeable to anyone other than absolute nerds a general audience, but it's also going to be true that in the coming years all-causes-deaths will be lower than had been originally projected (in, say, late 2019). An above-trend death rate in period t will almost certainly be followed by below-trend deaths in periods > t.

Not sure where you saw that, but as of this periodic survey's December installment, 91% of Democrats said they had gotten one or more shots and only 7% said they had no intention of doing it. Trumpist refusal, meanwhile, ranged from 26%-32%.

Here's a study dated Jan. 3, 2021, which suggests it was conducted in late 2020. Of those identifying as Democrats, 16% said they were either unlikely or absolutely not gonna get it. Very curious to see anything that says -- at any point -- that a majority of Dems were vaccine-hesitant.

    this is a bummer:

“I want to apologize to y’all for not being at the Screen Actors Guild Awards,” Smith told his Instagram followers. “I mean no offense to anyone. I’m not vaccinated, and it’s a requirement to be vaccinated.”

“I’m not vaccinated, I will not get vaccinated,” Smith added. “I haven’t been vaccinated since I was a little kid. I don’t vaccinate my dogs, I don’t vaccinate my horses. I’ve never had a flu shot. I never will. I believe they compromise your immunities… It’s just my beliefs. I just don’t believe in that stuff. Whatever.”

In September of 2020, we had a nut job telling people to take horse pills for COVID in office. He was strong arming the CDC at every turn.

Pfizer and Moderna did not release their clinical findings until November of 2020.

People were becoming more and more skeptical of the vaccine because of the Sept 2020 setting, not from what people were saying on the campaign trail.
